Reik arrived at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards to talk about their collaboration with Sebastian Yatra and dipping their toes in the urban music scene.
“We’re happy because it’s a ballad and we don’t hear that type of music in the radio as much,” they said about “Un Año” at the red carpet live stream. “We’re happy that people love it and besides, Yatra is like a little brother to us.”
Reik, who have recently collaborated with many urban artists, talked about experimenting with a new sound, going from pop to urban. “We learned that all the best things happen when you get out of your comfort zone,” they said. “We also learned a lot about the urban world, the new talents, and the desire to collaborate.”
The group also talked about their fans reactions with their new sound. “It was a shock for people who have followed us for over 15 years but we’re never going to stop doing romantic ballads. We have an incredible new audience from people in Dubai, Sweden — we’ve gained so much and we’re excited about our new fans,” they said.
One of the challenges they face in the genre, however, is trying to adapt urban music to a stage setting, something they consider to be “very interesting.”
