Born Edmundo Gomez Moreno, the Mexican singer earned his first No. 1s on the Regional Mexican Songs and Tropical Songs charts earlier this year. Still making the rounds with his addicting cumbia track, Raymix recently nabbed two nominations for the Latin American Music Awards: one for best new artist and one for favorite song.
“Winning both awards would mean a lot to me,” he tells Billboard. “Just as I would like to receive best new artist, I also think it’s important that the music that I make is recognized.”
Raymix, who reveals that he was riding his bike when he received the great news, never thought his single would get him to where he is now. “I never thought I’d get this far because I used to do something else. I’m an Aerospace Engineer,” he says. “But life gives you surprises and my fans were [what] got me here.”
Before kicking off his music career, Raymix worked with NASA, an experience he says has helped him grow as an artist. “You don’t need the best tools or budget to work on projects that transcend far,” he says.
“Oye Mujer” is only the beginning for the 27-year-old singer, who by the way, just signed with Universal Music Publishing Group. “There’s more music made with love, passion, and conviction, coming on the way,” he assures.
