“We’re bringing something different for the fans,” Royce tells Billboard during an interview backstage at rehearsals. “We’re doing a big collaboration, a big musical piece, something very different that I’ve never done in an awards show.”
This year, the ceremony is also paying tribute to Daddy Yankee, who is celebrating 15 years since the release of his 2004 album Barrio Fino. And Prince Royce’s first collab was with the big boss.
“Daddy Yankee was the first collaboration that I did. My very first collaboration, period, in music, and I think that it’s a story I always tell,” Royce says. “He really was one of the first ones that gave me the opportunity to record with him, and I think he’s such an inspiration to all of us.”
