Reggaetón and regional Mexican songs lead Pandora’s most liked or “thumbed up” songs of 2016.
J Balvin‘s reggaetón anthem “Ginza” leads the list with more than 3.3 million thumbs up, according to Pandora. “The continued popularity of reggaetón is apparent — it has essentially become the de facto Latin pop genre of the year. Eight of the top 25 songs are either by or featuring reggaetón artists, including the top three,” Marcos Juarez, head of Latin music programming at Pandora, said in a statement.
“Additionally, Regional Mexican music continues to be a driving force on Pandora, with the genre providing over two-thirds of the entrants on the list. Within regional Mexican, norteño and sierreño sounds edge out banda for the most representation this year.”
Reggaetoneros Balvin, Nicky Jam and Yandel take the first three spots while regional Mexican acts such as Banda MS and Los Plebes del Rancho de Ariel Camacho make up the rest of the ranking with two to three songs each on the list.
