Chilean singer-songwriter Mon Laferte sat down with Billboard as part of the “You Should Know” video series to discuss when she started writing songs, who her musical inspirations are and which television show she currently loves.
Laferte, who grew up in Chile’s coastal city Viña del Mar, says that she wrote her first song at around the age of 13 or 14, explaining, “I’ve been singing for as long as I could remember.”
The singer shares that her musical inspirations include Juan Gabriel, Edith Piaf and Bjork, while her non-celebrity inspiration is her grandmother. “She was also a singer/composer,” Laferte states. “She played the guitar. I’ve always wanted to be like her.”
The “Amárrame” songstress also reveals that she loves vegan cauliflower tacos and Stranger Things, and that she enjoys yoga. You can watch the full video above to find out more about Mon Laferte, including her 2018 hopes and her spirit animal.
