For fans of Mexico’s national soccer team, there is no better World Cup anthem than a classic Mexican song.
Streams of the mariachi evergreen “Cielito Lindo” surged after Mexico’s stunning World Cup game win over Germany. During their again victorious match with South Korea on Saturday (June 22), fans in Russia, Mexico and beyond were proclaiming the Mexican team “The King” of the World Cup by singing “El Rey,” written by José Alfredo Jiménez.
Even Colombian artist Maluma serenaded fans with the song, wearing a Mexico jersey.
