With the powerful quote by Rumi, “Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form,” Maffio presents his most personal production yet called “Celebration,” premiering on Billboard today (Oct. 3).
The Dominican producer has joined forces with Farruko, Akon, and Ky-Mani Marley to celebrate life and the legacy of those who we have lost. With its feel-good Spanglish lyrics and chill reggae melodies, Maffio’s new song is in honor of his late sister Katherine Alexandra Mendoza. “Dry your eyes for me, no tears for me just smiling. Celebrate my life. It’s gonna be alright,” goes the encouraging chorus.
“I [understand] that the people who leave us continue with us, which is why have to let them go live their eternal life in peace and that the best way to honor them is to celebrate and live our own lives intensely,” Maffio says in an official statement.
The heartfelt music video features all four artists singing and enjoying the track while Maffio’s daughter, Marley, goes around spreading joy with a red carnation (Mendoza’s favorite flower). TV personality Jorge Bernal, Venezuelan comedian Marko, and actress Gabriela Vergara also make appearances in the clip. The ending of the video shows photos of Maffio’s late sister and an emotional video of him and his mother crying.
