Among Billboard’s Latin Power Players, the list’s five marquee managers — Fernando Giaccardi, Walter Kolm, Johnny Marines, Angelo Medina and Alex Mizrahi — may like to keep a low profile, but their influence is still felt.
Billboard asked them what their definition of power is. Here are their answers (in alphabetical order by last name):
Fernando Giaccardi (Enrique Iglesias):
“Power belongs to the person who gets things done and yet still remains unnoticeable. Because in our industry people are always talking about what they do, who they know, how much they have. And for me power is when things happen and you don’t even know who’s behind it. When you’re getting things done, that’s all that matters: Just get it done.”
“I’m going to give you a hippie answer and say power is love. I don’t like the word power in the traditional sense, or as a measure of success or influence. My power lies in having lots of friends and allies. It’s about being able to say, can you give me a hand?”
Johnny Marines (Romeo Santos)
“Power is knowledge. We’re in a business that’s constantly changing. You have to be able to adjust to the times. If you’re not able to adjust to the times, you’re going to get left behind. If you’re going to win, you got to stay ahead.”
“Power is the ability to deliver.”
“I don’t believe in power. I believe in the law of excellence and respect. If you do things properly, that gives you access.”
