Looking trim and poised, and wearing an all black outfit that seemed worlds away from his green prison scrubs, singer/TV reality star Larry Hernandez spoke out for the first time since his Sept. 25 arrest.
Why Is Mexican Singer Larry Hernandez Behind Bars?
“I want to thank my fans for all their prayers, their love and good vibes,” Hernandez said in a video that looks as if it had been shot in his California home.
They were the first words Hernandez has said in public since being freed on bail Oct. 23, when he stood before a judge at a courtroom in Newberry, S.C., and was finally set free after paying a $200,000 bond.
“It’s important to reiterate that, as a result of the legal process I’m going through, my lawyers don’t allow me to give interviews or statements regarding the case,” Hernandez added. “That’s why I haven’t given interviews to any media [Hernandez’s attorneys told Billboard he wasn’t giving interviews at this time]. It’s not, as some in very bad faith have said, because I’m looking to sell an exclusive interview. My interest at no time is one of economic gain for an interest that narrates or revives what has been a nightmare for me.”
Larry Hernandez Held Without Bail Over South Carolina Case
Hernandez is being charged with kidnapping, assault, and assault and battery stemming from an Aug. 16 incident that took place in Newberry following a concert there by Hernandez. He was arrested Sept. 25 as the Ontario airport in California on a fugitive warrant, but it would take nearly a full month for him to be transported to Newberry to face the charges, and he was in custody during that time.
His next court appearance is a probable cause hearing currently set for Dec. 31. Hernandez is a regional Mexican singer and also the star of NBC Universo hit series Larrymania.
