Mexican gymnast Alexa Moreno was body-shamed on social media following her performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where instead of focusing on her talent and discipline, Twitter trolls criticized her weight.
Luckily, the negative comments were quickly overshadowed by positive comments and support including an encouraging message from Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia, who took to Facebook to applaud Moreno for her performance. “We are with you, Alexa. You are a pride to all of us.”
Along with the “Vámonos” singers, Mexican athletes, including soccer players Diego Reyes and Ángel Reyna, congratulated her for a memorable participation at the Olympics. “Congratulations to Alexa Moreno who had a great participation in the Olympics. Another reason to make us feel prideful despite all criticism,” tweeted Reyes.
