La Santa Cecilia celebrates a Mexican-American 4th of July with the release of the band’s new video, “México Americano.” The Los Angeles Grammy-winners joined with Mexican rockabilly group the Rebel Cats to record a cover of Los Lobos’ 2005 Chicano pride anthem.
“We love this song because it expresses how we feel about being Mexican-American, bi-cultural,” La Santa Cecilia member Miguel “Oso” told Billboard in an interview about the band’s new album Amar y Vivir. “To have us, Mexican-American artists, play that song with a rockabilly band from Mexico proves that the border can be obsolete and meaningless culturally.”
The video was filmed at Be Bops, a 1950s-style American diner in Mexico City.
