Following an emotional tribute and musical homage for Juan Gabriel at Mexico’s Palacio de Bellas Artes on Monday and Tuesday, the late singer’s family took to social media to thank the thousands of fans who showed up to pay their respects.
“To the thousands and thousands of people from Mexico and around the world that took the time to show their love, kindness and affection for our beloved father and our family for these past two beautiful days, we want to express our gratitude and appreciation. Thank you for making us stronger. … Long live our father, live forever in our hearts Juan Gabriel.”

According to Mexico’s secretary of culture, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, nearly 1 million people visited Bellas Artes before the “Querida” singer’s ashes were taken back to Gabriel’s native Ciudad Juárez on Tuesday night. The urn containing his ashes will be kept over the chimney of his home.
Juan Gabriel died Aug. 28 at 66 years old in Santa Monica, California.
