Enrique Iglesias is very selective when he decides to collaborate with a rising artist. In fact, the Latin artists who have had a song with Iglesias, such as Nicky Jam, have evolved tremendously with their careers. And this year, Jon Z was randomly selected by Iglesias, who wanted to record a new version of “Despues Que Te Perdi.”
Who is Jon Z? His real name is Jonathan Resto Quiñones and he’s a rapper from San Juan, Puerto Rico, whose music is equally influenced by reggaeton and American hip-hop, particularly trap. Among his favorite artists are Eminem, Young Thug and Future.
His career started in 2014 when he started uploading freestyle videos on YouTube. Then, in 2015, Jon Z started to perform across Puerto Rico and caught the attention of Boy Wonder, who signed him to Chosen Few Emeralds Entertainment. Immediately, he released his debut mixtape.
Today, Jon Z has developed his own personality and has made songs that talk about partying and living a free life, which is the opposite of his single with Iglesias (most of them are explicit). In an interview with Billboard, Jon Z confessed that he didn’t expect to ever work with Enrique Iglesias. “I was surprised,” he said. “I have admired Enrique since I was a child.”
