The timeless bolero is a duet between Secada and the Cuban music idol. “We’re talking about Beny Moré’s most famous song, it’s a bolero, it’s an anthem and we worked very hard in making the duet as good as it was possible for us,” the Grammy-winning singer says about the song.
“It was technically a big challenge to be able to extract his voice and mix it in the right way.”
“Como fue” is the first single from his upcoming tribute album To Beny Moré With Love. The set, produced by Julio Bagué, includes 10 of Moré’s songs re-recorded by the Cuban-American artist.
“It’s a collective labor of love that came from the heart of all the parties involved in the project, from my partners, the producers, the musicians, the arrangers. … Ray Santos worked with Beny Moré in the ’50s, he’s 88 years old and arranged this music flawlessly. … It’s impressive and each piece of the puzzle led to this. Everybody made an effort of genuine love to make sure the project really was what it should be: a tremendous tribute to a tremendous artist.”
To Beny Moré With Love, which follows Secada’s 2011 studio album Otra Vez, is expected to drop March 3. Listen to the exclusive premiere of “Como fue” below (the track will be released Feb. 3):
Following the premiere of To Beny Moré With Love, Secada will also embark on a tour in the United States joined by The Charlie Sepúlveda Big Band. Tour dates to be announced soon.
