Jennifer Lopez was the star guest at the NBCUniversal Telemundo upfronts, playing a private concert exclusively for the network’s advertising clients at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday (May 16).
Telemundo said in a statement the purpose of the concert was to “Celebrate Telemundo’s successes this past year,” and that Lopez’s performance would be one of “several collaborations” with the network, including a performance at the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Lopez, of course, is the star of current NBC drama Shades of Blue. Earlier in the day, during an interview at the blue carpet with Today’s Dylan Dreyer, she described the first two episodes of the new season as “dark times for me.”
“I find her really human,” Lopez said about her flawed character, detective Harlee Santos. “It feels really gritty to me.”
In contrast, recording tracks “I Ain’t Your Mama” feels almost like a vacation. “I gotta’ have fun some time,” she laughed. “I love the whole empowerment message. Getting what we deserve and not being taken for granted. And it’s great doing it in a fun way.”
