Jennifer Lopez has already scored major nominations for her role in Hustlers (including the SAG Awards and Golden Globes), but the superstar feels like she’s already won an Oscar with her upcoming Super Bowl halftime gig.
During an appearance on CBS This Morning on Sunday (Dec. 22), Lopez said that while the Oscar nominations haven’t been revealed just yet, her taking the big stadium stage compares to that elated feeling of possibly being recognized by the Academy.
“It’s like winning the Oscar. It’s the biggest show that there is. It has the biggest audience,” Lopez explains. “You get to have this big production. Like, you don’t get to do that on tour. You know, everything’s budget conscious. And you can do this. It’s a different experience. And I think it’s just like a fantasy for all musical artists to be able to play the Super Bowl and have that 12 minutes of an amazing show … There’s just something exhilarating about it.”
She goes on to say that her and co-headliner Shakira are planning to come together on stage for the first time. “We’re both Latin artists, we bring that flavor. It’s exciting and a new thing that hasn’t been on any other Super Bowl.”
Lopez previously teased a few surprises on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month. “You end having twelve to fourteen minutes, and we are probably going to split that between us and have special guests, hopefully,” she said.
The 2020 Super Bowl halftime show will take place on Feb. 2 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
