Despite not being physically with us, Jenni Rivera’s music is more alive than ever, especially among her beloved fans and on digital platforms.
Eight years ago today (Dec. 9), La Diva de la Banda died in a tragic airplane accident. To honor her music and legacy, Billboard has gathered the late Mexican singer’s five best songs.
From “Ya Lo Sé” to “La Gran Señora,” listen to them below.
“Ya Lo Sé”
Although Jenni Rivera was a strong woman her feelings were real. Her song “Ya Lo Sé” is one of those songs that a scorned woman would sing to the man she loves and lost.
“Basta Ya” (with Marco Antonio Solís)
“Basta Ya” is one of the best songs written by Marco Antonio Solís. Although it has different versions, Jenni Rivera recorded it for her album Joyas Prestadas, released in 2011.
“Resulta”
Singing from the bottom of her heart, Rivera was known for dropping songs about spite and heartbreak, and “Resulta” is a representation of that.
“Por Qué No Le Calas”
“Por Que No Calas” represents a strong woman who can face her man during the worst situations of a relationship. With phrases like “Si crees que otra si a de amarte por completo. Porque no empacas le buscas y le calas” (If you think that another woman will love you completely, why don’t you pack and look for it.), Jenni Rivera not only shows that she is strong but motivates her fans to confront any situation.
“La Gran Señora”
Jenni Rivera will always be La Gran Señora (The Big Lady). The song shows Rivera’s real personality. She was a strong lady who was ready to fight and defend what belongs to her.
