During a 24-hour period, the Juan Pablo Valencia-directed clip collected 4.9 million views on YouTube, breaking a record for debut views in Latin music. “Bobo’s” music video now has 10 millions views and counting.
The sultry video shot in Mexico City beats the record set by Balvin’s last music video “Ginza,” which rounded up two million views in its first day.
In the “Bobo” visual, Balvin is transformed into the nerd Carlos David who doesn’t appreciate his girlfriend, hence the title “Bobo (loser).”
The Colombian singer told Billboard that he and his producers — Sky, Mosty and Bull Nene — took a risk on the concept for “Bobo.” He said, “It’s a song as real as its name. Again, we dared to leave our comfort zone and take a risk on a concept.”
