The “Bobo” singer is featured on Complex‘s new episode of Sneaker Shopping, where he says that after wearing the latest sneakers from West’s collection line, he “didn’t want to buy more Yeezys” when he heard about the meeting back in December.
Balvin, who was one of this year’s New York Fashion Week: Men’s ambassadors, adds: “I don’t know, I respect Kanye, but when it comes to Trump, I’m not into that, man. Like I basically stopped wearing Yeezys. I was upset, super sad, extra super sad.”
It’s not the first time the Colombian reggaetonero has expressed anti-Trump sentiments. Back in 2015, he canceled his Miss USA pageant performance, his first on national [mainstream] television, after the then-presidential candidate made racist remarks against Mexican immigrants.
“This isn’t about being punitive, but about showing leadership through social responsibility,” Balvin said in a previous interview with Billboard. “His comments weren’t just about Mexicans, but about all Latinos in general.”
As for West, he deleted previous tweets explaining his meeting with Trump, saying he had decided to meet to discuss “multicultural issues.”
