Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin posted a public apology on his Instagram after a joke he made about women from Bogotá went viral.
In the viral clip, shot with a phone during an interview Balvin did at New York radio station 97.9 FM (La Mega), Balvin was asked where he flew in from.
“Bogota,” he answered.
“Beautiful women in Bogota?” asked the DJ.
“Yes,” answers Balvin, while at the same time shaking his finger “no.”
The video, 15 seconds long, resulted in multiple news articles and comments in Colombian media. Balvin is also Colombian, but from Medellin.

In a three-part apology posted June 2 on his Instagram account, Balvin said:
“I’m officially apologizing to the women of Bogotá. I never said they were bad looking, but my hand gesture was a joke; a joke that fell flat. As a man, I understand they were offended. And the people of Bogota too […] I’m sorry, I apologize and I’ll learn from this.”
