Three of regional Mexican music’s top stars, Gerardo Ortiz, his younger brother Kevin Ortiz, and Luis Coronel, have signed on with Estrella TV’s Fenomeno Studios and MetroPCS to bring fans an intimate acoustic concert experience, #AsiEsMiHistoria [#ThisIsMyStory], starting Oct. 9.
In the acoustic sessions, part of an effort to connect the Mexican millennials with their core fans, Coronel recorded some of his best-known ballads, including “Alérgico a Tí,” while the superstar brothers sang together and recorded a full set of some of their hit singles at Fenomeno Studios in Los Angeles in front of a small audience of about 50 fans. In order to invite those who weren’t in the room to be a part of the experience, each artist did a surprise live chat with fans using Periscope and later engaged in a candid Q&A with members of the audience that revealed aspects about their lives and careers. Each Friday through Nov. 4, a new session will be posted on www.asiesmihistoria.com. Then, on Nov. 4, #AsiEsMiHistoria will air nationwide as a half-hour special on Estrella TV.

In other exciting news for Coronel, the 19-year-old phenom took home the award for favorite regional Mexican male artist at the first-ever Latin American Music Awards Oct. 8. He was also among the night’s performers, as was Gerardo, who on Friday (Oct. 9) releases his first movie, Como Un Sueño [Like A Dream], a part-documentary, part concert experience with feature film elements directed by Jesse Terrero.
Luis Coronel Backstage at Latin American Music Awards
Backstage at the LatinAMAs, Coronel told Billboard how excited he is to see Como Un Sueño. “[I admire] everything that Gerardo’s worked for, everything that he’s doing. He’s a regional Mexican singer but he’s been in a Hollywood movie [Spare Parts with George Lopez], and now he has his own movie! I can’t believe that my idol is releasing a movie. I’m super excited to see it.”
