Gente de Zona and Los del Río debuted the new version of the track last month during Univision’s annual Premios Juventud, but on Friday (Aug. 19) the dynamic duo behind chart-topping songs like “Bailando” and “La Gozadera” released the music video for their modern version of the song.
Shot in GDZ’s native Cuba and directed by Daniel Duran, the clip includes people of all ages dancing to the Macarena and taking the memorable choreography to the colorful streets of the island. Watch the “Más Macarena” video below:
This week, “Macarena” celebrated its 21st anniversary and an important Billboard chart milestone: In August of 1996, the song was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for 14 weeks.
“We’re just two guys from a small town, doing things very humbly because we come from very humble families. We lost our parents very young, we’ve worked so hard, and to see ourselves here?” Los del Río told Billboard.
