Vallenato singer/songwriter Martín Elías died in car accident on Friday (April 14). The Colombian artist was 26 years old.
The accident happened during the early hours of the morning while Elías was on his way to Valledupar, a northern city of Colombia. He had performed at a music festival the night before.
Elías was considered a pioneer in the new wave of vallenato music in Colombia, following in the footsteps of his father, the iconic folk singer/songwriter Diomedes Díaz, who died in 2013.
“My soul hurts …. He was talented and a gentleman. Thank you for your music. Have a good trip, brother,” Fonseca tweeted along with a photo of him with Elías and Vives.

In a heartfelt tribute, the “Al filo de tu amor” singer shared photos and videos of him and the late singer performing onstage.
Juanes wrote on Twitter: “Mourning the death of Martín Elías. His family and friends are in my prayers.”
