Diego el Cigala’s personal salsa tribute album, Indestructible, was another achievement from the Spanish flamenco singer, who gained an international following 15 years ago when he recorded the brilliant Lagrímas Negras with Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés.
On Nov. 6, the documentary Indestructible: The Soul of Salsa will be available on digital outlets after a run at international festivals. Such is Cigala’s charm that the 90-minute doc could have been titled “irresistible.”
A road movie that follows the recording of the album and the roots and evolution of salsa, it follows Cigala to New York City, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Colombia and the Dominican Republic, where Cigala currently resides.
Spirits are high and the company could not be better: Salsa singer Oscar D´Leon, pianist gonzalo Rubalcaba and Fania original Larry Harlow are among those who appear with Cigala in the film.
Sony Music Latin and The Orchard have partnered for the global release of Indestructible, which was directed by David Pareja.
