Daddy Yankee and Ednita Nazario joined the list of celebrities who already have a star on the Puerto Rico Walk of Fame. Their ceremonies to unveil the stars were held separately on Thursday (March 16) in Ventana al Mar in Condado.
The first to unveil the star was Ednita Nazario, who in addition to dedicating the recognition to her daughter, took to social media to voice her emotions, writing: “And to know that even when I won’t be much longer here, there is a little piece of what I have done with my life for you in this beautiful place.”
Nazario, who is a legendary music icon in the island, started her career from a young age and has released more than twenty albums throughout her career.
Daddy Yankee’s star was unveiled during the afternoon, and he stood out with an emotional speech about the crisis in Puerto Rico. “I want to tell Puerto Rico that we are not the only ones, that this is worldwide,” he said. “We do not need to feel bad or marginalized because the whole world is going through great trials, but we as Puerto Ricans have to look for change internally first to try to positively impact our Island. To those who have made the decision to leave, we don’t judge them because we also see others’ situation.”
Along with Nazario and Yankee, five other celebrities were honored: the Miss Universe, Marisol Malaret; producer, Ángelo Medina; boxer, Felix “Tito” Trinidad and posthumously, actor Juano Hernandez and baseball legend Roberto Clemente.
This year, Ednita Nazario joins top agents in the Memoir and Biopic discussion at the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Conference. For more information, click here.
