When Venezuelan pop/urban/tropical duo Chino y Nacho set out to film the video for their new single “Me Voy Enamorando” (I’m Falling In Love), they went for a story that pulls at the heartstrings: Teen love between a girl undergoing cancer treatment and the singer-songwriter boy in love with her and doing everything to show it (including shaving his head).
“Everybody was crying in the middle of the set,” says Nacho (born Miguel Ignacio Mendoza) of the making of the video. “Everyone is connecting with the story.”
The end result is uplifting and infectious, and views of the track’s remix, featuring Farruko, have multiplied as it’s risen in airplay. As of June 1, the official video alone had 20 million views on YouTube, not including several million accrued up for behind-the-scenes footage.
And it’s just beginning.
For the week ending June 1, “Me Voy Enamorando” increases 19 percent at radio, rising 32-27 on the Latin Airplay chart. It also steps up 13-12 on Latin Pop Airplay.
The video was shot in a low-income neighborhood in Venezuela that even police are hesitant to enter. But, says Chino (born Jesus Alberto Miranda Perez), the idea was to show the world unexpectedly beautiful places in their home country, and overwhelmingly, the beauty of the people who live in Venezuela.

“We believe in the love people feel for us and the love we feel for the people in Venezuela,” explains Chino. “People were very happy having us there singing for them, performing for them.”
