Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip will headline Sonar festivals in Bogota, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo at the end of this year.
Promotors from the four South American cities gathered at Sonar in Barcelona Saturday, June 20, to make the announcement, together with Sonar’s Barcelona-based organizers.
Brodinski, Evian Christ, and Recondite will also play the series of fests in the region, starting with a five-day Sonar in Sao Paulo November 24-28. One-day events will be held on Dec. 3 in Buenos Aires, Dec. 5 in Santiago and Dec. 7 in Bogota.
The presale for Sonar Buenos Aires starts on Monday, June 22, and for Sao Paulo and Bogota on June 26. Tickets go on sale for SonarSound Santiago de Chile on July 8.
It will be Sonar’s second stop in Buenos Aires, and the festival’s third in Sao Paulo. Sonar will debut in Santiago and Bogota.
“This is much more than a music festival,” said Jose de la Barra of Lotus Productions in Santiago, which also presents Lollapalooza Chile. “It’s tremendously beneficial for the community.” SonarSound Santiago de Chile will be held at a new festival venue, the 20,000 capacity Hangares de Suricato, located at a former airport outside of the city center.
Matias Loizaga of promotor Pop Art in Buenos Aires said that Sonar’s South American partners shared “a commitment to bringing emerging artists from all of the [participating South American] countries to each festival.”
Argentine artists Poncho and Leandro Fresco, among others yet to be announced, will perform at the Buenos Aires festival.
The announcement about the South American festivals was made as Sonar attendees in Barcelona were preparing for the final night of the original festival’s 22nd edition. Organizers set attendance at 119,000 over three days. At a press conference, they also announced the dates of Sonar Barcelona 2016: June 16-18.
