A Celia Cruz autobiography has been optioned by Endemol North America and film and TV director/producer/choreographer Kenny Ortega is attached, according to an agency representing the project.
Celia: My Life by Ana Cristina Reymundo was published by Harper Collins in 2005. The book centers on the Queen of Salsa’s career and life based on interviews shortly before she died in 2003 after complications from brain surgery.
“There is no bigger name in Latin music than Celia Cruz,” said Endemol Shine North America CEO Cris Abrego. “We are thrilled to be adapting her amazing life story, one filled with triumph and tragedy, for a dramatic television series with a producer of Kenny Ortega’s pedigree attached.”
Several scripted series are in development at Endemol Shine North America and its Spanish production division, Endemol Shine Boomdog, including To Selena With Love (with Major TV) and the drama Nicky Jam: El Ganador, scheduled to debut on Telemundo and Netflix later this year.
