Carlos Vives and Ricky Martin delivered a festive rendition of “Cancion Bonita” at the 2021 Latin AMAs on Thursday (April 15). The duo paid tribute to Martin’s native Puerto Rico throughout the performance.
Vives and Martin first met more than 25 years ago, when Martin was just launching his solo career and Vives was a popular actor and singer who’d arrived in Puerto Rico to film a soap opera. Although the two became good friends, it took them nearly three decades to record together.
Martin and Vives released the joyful “Canción Bonita” on Tuesday and performed it together for the first time Thursday night. The track, which blends Vives’ vallenato with Martin’s Puerto Rican beats, is an homage both to Puerto Rico and to the simple joys of friendship.
It’s also a reminder of how cool it is to have two superstars come together in a single, stellar song.
Also at Thursday’s Latin AMAs, Martin sat down for a Zoom chat with Dr. Anthony Fauci about the importance of the Hispanic community getting COVID-19 vaccines.
