Carlos Vives has been blessing us with traditional vallenato and cumbia sounds since the beginning of his music career in 1986.
For more than three decades, his songs such as “La Gota Fria” and “Tierra del Olvido” have become timeless pieces that transcend generations. Staying relevant but true to his musical background, the Colombian singer has experimented with champeta, rock, Latin pop, reggaeton, and mambo.
Vives is currently making the rounds with his album Cumbiana, a search for the indigenous roots of Colombian music that features duets with Alejandro Sanz, Jessie Reyez, and Ruben Blades.
Friday (Aug. 7) marks Vives’ 59th birthday, and to honor his renowned trajectory in music, Billboard has put together Vives’ music video evolution from 1993 to today.
If there’s one thing you should know when traveling back in time with the clips, it’s that Vives — jean shorts or no jean shorts — never ages!
