Shortly after Ozuna and Cardi B’s “La Modelo” peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100, Cardi took to Instagram, expressing her gratitude for all the support she’s received toward her flourishing career as a recording artist.
“Thank you guys for the support,” she captioned below, “this honestly one of my favorite songs. Thank you @ozunapr por darme la oportunidad.”
She capped off her statement with an unlikely request: “Now, I want to do a song with Fefita [La Grande]!” she screamed, singing the merengue icon’s catchy hit “Vamos Hablar Inglés,” or “Let’s Speak English.”
For the uninitiated, Cardi’s request might have seemed completely arbitrary. But it’s become apparent Fefita La Grande goes way back with Cardi’s family — her father, specifically.
“I know her so well that her dad, Carlito Almánzar, and I are nail and finger,” La Grande explained to Diario Libre. “I have even recorded merengues for him. Although I do not know her very well, because she grew up in the United States, I’m super happy and grateful that she wants to record with me. ‘Vamos Hablar Inglés…’ I’m sure we’ll do it. I saw the video that she published and I felt very happy.”
“I have not been in communication with her previously,” she continued, “but I am sure that in the next few days we will be changing that and I am in the best position to do so.”
Fefita disclosed to DL that she’s in the thick of finalizing tour dates in New York, and that when she does, she will be contacting Cardi B about that remix.
