Calibre 50 were nominated at the 2018 Latin Grammys for best regional song with “Corrido de Juanito.” The trophy went to first-time winner Christian Nodal, but Calibre had the chance to perform their hit onstage at the show.
Before their performance, the Mexican band talked to Billboard about their nominated song, saying it’s based on the true story of lead singer Eden’s brother, Juanito. “The song was born because I found the urge of getting something off my chest and then we realized that many people felt identified,” he says.
The corrido brings to the forefront the hardships Latino immigrants face, and it’s a song that’s dedicated to the Latino community. “We want Latinos to know how important they are in this country [United States],” Eden added.
At the 2018 awards show, Calibre 50 tied with Grupo Pesado for best Norteño album. Watch video above.
