The first single from Enrique Bunbury’s MTV Unplugged session in Mexico City is out, and in a word it’s gorgeous.
On “La Chispa Adecuada” Bunbury sings with León Larregui of Mexican rock group Zoé who, as seen in the video from the session, is heir to Bunbury’s vocal spell casting and serpentine hand movements.
The new Unplugged album, El Libro de las Mutaciones, wil be released on Nov. 27. The Unplugged’s en español have never disappointed, starting with Café Tacuba’s acoustic recording in 1995, and including a 2000 performance by a brunette Shakira, Soda Stereo’s electronic “unplugged,” and Los Tigres del Norte’s multigenerational fiesta.
The guest list on Bunbury’s album includes his spiritual brother in rock Draco Rosa, Mexican indie singer/songwriter Carla Morrison, and Spain’s current biggest rock band, Vetusta Morla. Expect goose bumps.
