
The nominees for this year’s Billboard Music Awards Top Latin Artist include the “King of Bachata” Romeo Santos, urban superstar Nicky Jam, music icon Juan Gabriel and two chart-topping Mexican regional bands, Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga & Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes del Rancho, who scored its first BBMA nomination this year.

Romeo Santos
The 2015 BBMA Top Latin Artist winner is in the running again this year to take home the award. The “King of Bachata” had seven No. 1s on the Hot Latin Songs chart and 11 No. 1s on Latin Airplay. In total, Santos has had 23 singles on Hot Latin Songs.
Nicky Jam
Following the success of his reggaeton anthem “El perdón” featuring Enrique Iglesias, which held a historic 26-week run at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, his single “Hasta el amanecer” is currently No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 10th non-consecutive week.
Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga
The Mexican regional band earned the nomination after having five top 10 singles on Latin Airplay. The “Solo con verte” and “Háblame de ti” singers also have had six top 10s on Hot Latin Songs. Banda Sinaloense MS took home two Billboard Latin Music Awards in April.
Juan Gabriel
Part two of Juan Gabriel’s album Los Duo debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums and has spent seven weeks atop the chart. Los Duo 2 includes duets with Marc Anthony, Alejandro Fernández, Paty Cantú and Carla Morrison.
Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes del Rancho
The trio boasts 12 singles on the Hot Latin Songs (three top 10s) including one No. 1. Now known as Los Plebes del Rancho de Ariel Camacho, renamed in tribute to Camacho who died in February 2015, three of their songs have been on the Latin Airplay chart, two top 10s.
Ludacris and Ciara will host the 2016 Billboard Music Awards at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 22.
