During the past month Benito Antonio Martínez (aka Bad Bunny) has been giving clues in his Twitter account about his new project. But on Thursday night (Feb. 27), the singer finally spilled all the beans on The Tonight Show, cleverly dishing up all the details about his new album, YHLQMDLG, to host Jimmy Fallon.
After briefly playing coy about announcing his next project, BB revealed the cover art, which features a boy on a bicycle with a third eye on his forehead floating amidst flying cars and fire. Then, el conejo malo confirmed that his album will have 20 songs and will be released on Saturday (Feb. 29). As for the title, YHLQMDLG, the artist said “it means yo hago lo que me da la gana (I do whatever I feel like).”
The interview also included a dive into the origin story of his stage name — based on a photograph of him as a child dressed as a rabbit and with a not very cheerful expression. As for his participation in the Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, he said “I never imagined before that I was going to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. I don’t even know who won the game.”
His performance of “Ignorantes” with Sech found BB wearing a t-shirt with a poignant tribute to a transgender woman named Alexa who was brutally murdered in Puerto Rico earlier this week. Bunny’s t-shirt read, “Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con falda (They killed Alexa, not a man with skirt).”
