Exactly one year after his release from prison and the release of his debut album Real Hasta la Muerte, Anuel AA delivers another tour de force.
“China,” out today (July 19), is the trap star’s ultimate redemption. A Spanish-language adaption of Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me,” it features girlfriend Karol G and reggaeton powerhouses Daddy Yankee, J Balvin and Ozuna.
“China” is a reggaeton explosion, nearly six minutes long, that allows each artist to shine in an eminently danceable and commercially proven track that stays true to the original while managing to be completely refreshing.
“I already had many tracks alone,” Anuel tells Bilboardl, explaining why he asked so many artists to join. “So I thought of asking Yankee, and he hopped on right away. And one day I’m at home with Karol, and she said, ‘This is the best track I’ve heard from you.’ And because I wanted her on the song — because she liked it and we always help each other — I started to think on those classics that had all the big names in them. So it was going to be Karol, Yankee and Ozuna. And one day, speaking with Balvin, I said, ‘Hey, I have this song…and he loved it!”
Anuel scooped three awards Thursday night at the 2019 Premios Juventud in Miami.
