Get out your air bongos and turn up the volume on your hairbrush! On his new sing-along set, Música Moderna, José Luis Pardo infuses Latin pop classics like Luis Miguel’s “Cómo Es Posible Que a Mi Lado” and Enanitos Verdes’ “Lamento Boliviano” with a frothy retro dance groove you’d expect from the Los Amigos Invisibles veteran.
Pardo, also known as DJ Afro, recruited producer Dimitri From Paris and vocalists including Francisca Valenzuela and Federico Aubele for the project he calls Orquesta Discotheque.
Música Moderna is a tropical cocktail of an album toasting the Bee Gees era that’s poised to cause a sensation at holiday parties where people know and (perhaps secretly) love these songs. It comes out Dec. 9 on Nacional Records.
Here’s an exclusive premiere of Pardo’s cover of Shakira’s “Buscando un Poco de Amor,” showcasing Colombian singer Catalina Garcia from the alternative roots band Monsieur Periné.
The song was originally interpreted to a reggae beat by then-brunette Shakira on her 1996 album Pies Descalzos.
