Legendary country musician Ronnie Milsap took to the stage to perform his classic “Lost in the Fifties Tonight” with help from Little Big Town on Wednesday night’s (Feb. 6) Tonight Show.
Milsap began the minimalist set by posting up behind his mini grand piano in a dark purple suit and sunglasses as he sang the 1986 slow jam’s lyrics, “Close your eyes, baby/ Follow my heart/ Call on the memories, here in the dark/ We’ll let the magic, take us away/ Back to the feelings, we shared when they played.”
Grammy-nominated country group Little Big Town swayed next to Milsap and joined in with their soulful vocals. “In the still of the night, hold me darlin’, hold me tight/ So real, so right/ Lost in the fifties tonight,” they harmonized.
Host Jimmy Fallon couldn’t resist joining in toward the end of the performance, helping add some doo-wop flavor to the song that will appear on The Duets, Milsap’s latest album featuring updated versions of his best hits accompanied by other artists, including George Strait, Kacey Musgraves, Luke Bryan, Dolly Parton and more.
