Maren Morris took center stage with stark-white guitar in hand to perform the title track from her recently released album, Girl, on Monday night’s (March 11) The Tonight Show.
Wearing an emerald green, shimmery wrap dress, Morris stood on an elevated platform resembling a fashion show runway as she sang the country ballad with uplifting lyrics. “Girl, won’t you stop your cryin’?/ I know that you’re tryin’/ Everything’s gonna be okay/ Baby girl, don’t you hang your head low/ Don’t you lose your halo/ Everyone’s gonna be okay, baby girl,” Morris sang on the chorus.
Morris told Genius that the song was inspired by an argument she was having with a friend in the music industry, but soon realized that it was actually about her own insecurities. “I had this realization that, no, I’m not writing this to her, I’m writing this to me,” Morris said. “And that sucked realizing that because it was honestly me looking in the mirror and being like, ‘No, this is all your shit. It’s not hers. It’s your insecurity, your bullshit, your complexes.’”
