Tim McGraw may have just released his latest album, “Two Lanes of Freedom,” in January — and capped off its accompanying tour with a performance at iHeartRadio Saturday night. But he’s already begun work on the next record.
“I’ve actually been in the studio over the last couple weeks,” McGraw said backstage at the MGM Grand Arena, as Paul McCartney played a rousing opening set. “I don’t know when we’ll have it out, but I’ve just been putting a lot of work that in that process where I’m sort of in the dungeon singing when I get the chance.”
Tim isn’t the only member of the McGraw household readying new music. Wife Faith Hill, whose birthday happened to fall on Saturday night, has been hard at work prepping her long-awaited follow-up to 2005’s “Fireflies.”
“She’s workin’ on stuff,” McGraw says. “She’s writing songs and she‘s just in a great place. She’s really enjoying life and enjoying the process of finding the right songs for her. I think that she’s one of the best singers out there.”
McGraw and HIll will return to Vegas later this year for another 10 weekends of shows at The Venetian (“They treated us well out there,” he says of last year’s engagement) but first, he’s returning to the movies.
As Billboard first reported, this week McGraw travels to Vancouver to start filming “Tomorrowland,” a largely secretive project from director Brad Bird (“The Incredibles,” “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”) with costars like George Clooney and Hugh Laurie.
“I can’t say much about the script, but it’s a great story,” McGraw says. “It’s gonna be a really cool movie. I love the script.”
