Thomas Rhett may have haters, but it ain’t his fault — or at least he gave them a reason to reconsider their opinion with a sunny, pop-inflected performance on Saturday Night Live.
As the musical guest of the March 2 episode, Rhett brought the funkier edge of pop country to Studio 8H with a brand new track and the first single off his forthcoming album, Center Point Road, which drops May 31.
With “Look What God Gave Her,” the first cut we heard from Center Point Road, Rhett beamed and strummed his white acoustic guitar as he sang through the single.
“Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time” kicked Rhett’s onstage party up a notch, as a brass section joined his band onstage to roll through the never-before-heard tune. Rhett’s powerhouse back-up singers brought a little soul to the set, and the song came to a climax with the help of their killer vocals and some serious guitar solo action.
