Two months after Sugarland released their Mad Men-esque music video for “Babe” — featuring an appearance from the song’s co-writer Taylor Swift — the country duo shared a video on Wednesday (Aug. 15) that dives into how the visual was created.
The 1960s-set video stars Sugarland songstress Jennifer Nettles as a wealthy housewife, whose picture-perfect life turns upside down when she discovers her husband, played by Actor Brandon Routh, is cheating on her with a redheaded mistress, Taylor Swift.
“We are actually set, believe it or not, on the actual Mad Men set, which is amazing,” Nettles says to the camera, as she sits in a 1966 Ford Galaxie wearing a vintage, bright yellow dress and pearls for her part.
Routh, who plays the unfaithful husband, says that he’s used to playing good guys but got to play the villain this time. “The concept is a married couple who we think is the perfect married couple, and then we find out that the husband is a cheating cad, and that’s me,” he adds.
While Swift doesn’t make an appearance in the BTS cut, according to an interview with the bandmates by People at the CMT Awards in June, Swift was the one who reached out to Sugarland with the idea for the video.
