Steven Tyler first came to the idea of a country album during a one-off duet with LeAnn Rimes at last year’s MusiCares gala — just a few months later, the Aerosmith singer signed to the same label record label (Big Machine) as Taylor Swift. Now, he’s releasing “Love Is Your Name,” his first single ahead of a full country solo album.
“Country, to me, has always been oversimplified, by an accent, a truck, cowboy boots, a dirt road, a back porch,” the rocker told USA Today. “But I think it’s more about freedom and pride and hard work and the girl. And knowing everybody’s first name in town, you know? There were 1,200 people in my town when I grew up. That, to me, is country.”
The album isn’t finished yet, but Tyler’s taking his job seriously — he’s renting a house in Nashville, where he’ll return to after Aerosmith’s upcoming summer tour to finish recording the project. “I flit from flower to flower, country to country, looking for good times and singing about the last time,” Tyler says of his country inspiration. “That’s what I’m putting into the country songs.”
He’s performing the track for the first time on tonight’s American Idol season finale — listen to it below:
