They performed “Harlem River Blues,” a cover of one of Justin’s most memorable hits that won song of the year at the 2011 Americana Music Awards. It was the first song to be released ahead of the album back in November. “See you when I get there, cowboy,” the frontman said in tribute to his son following the performance. He later sang “Far Away in Another Town” with his band, which was featured on Justin’s 2008 album The Good Life.
Earle and his band released J.T. on Jan. 4 on what would have been Justin’s 39th birthday. He died Aug. 20, 2020, in his Nashville home from an accidental overdose at age 38. All of the artist advances and royalties from J.T. will be donated to a trust for Justin and his wife Jennifer’s 3-year-old daughter Etta St. James Earle.
