Written by Albert Hay Malotte in 1935, the song features verses directly from The Bible. “Which art in heaven/Hallowed be Thy name,” Reba began. “Thy kingdom come/Thy will be done/On Earth/As it is in heaven.” During her performance, former president and son, George W. Bush was seen wiping away tears while sitting front row at his father’s service.
The Texas funeral saw about 1,200 friends and family in attendance, including celebrities like Reba McEntire and The Oak Ridge Boys, who also performed an a cappella version of “Amazing Grace.”
The formal Washington D.C. funeral this week included the city’s power figures, five of the nation’s living presidents, and many more attendees.
Mcentire later took to Twitter to share kind words about the former president. “It was an honor and privilege to sing at President George H.W. Bush’s funeral this morning,” she wrote. “He was a great friend and leader and I will never forget the time we shared together.”
