In 2016, Patsy Cline will become the first ever country legend to be revived onstage via hologram, thanks to a new deal with Hologram USA and the singer’s estate.
The Cline hologram will be the centerpiece of a new, full concert experience, which will include performance, commentary and audience interaction.
We’re Getting a Buddy Holly Hologram — What Does His Widow Think?
“We debuted our hologram technology to the Country music world with Jimmy Kimmel at the Country Music Awards. Now Patsy Cline will demonstrate how we can bring all the warmth and virtuosity of a true icon back for new audiences,” said Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA, in a statement. “We chose Patsy as our first Country hologram project, and our first female hologram project, for a reason: she was a pioneer who influenced generations of singers around the globe.”
Hologram USA has recently announced “celebrity resurrections” of Liberace and Buddy Holly, using the same technology as the famous Tupac Shakur hologram at 2012’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The company is also collaborating with the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, N.Y., on the Hologram Comedy Club that will feature the return of sets by America’s great comedians.
And the Next Musician Hologram is… Liberace!
Cline’s biggest hits include “Walking After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces” and “Crazy,” all of which will be featured in the show and elevated her career from the country to pop charts as a crossover mainstream success in the 1960s. She was one of country’s first female headliners and the first woman to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“We are very glad to share Patsy and her music with this new technology and format and honored by Hologram USA’s choice to have her as the first,” said Cline’s widower Charles Dick in a statement. “I am sure her fans, old and new, will be thrilled.”
In 1963, Cline died in an airplane crash, along with Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Randy Hughes.
