Australian singer-songwriter Morgan Evans made his CMAs red carpet debut on Wednesday, where he spoke with Billboard about the country music fan base in his native land and the inspiration behind his debut single “Kiss Somebody.”
“Australians love country music,” Evans explained. “I grew up there listening to it and playing it and I’ve been a part of the scene down there for a little while now.”
He continued, “I moved over here three years ago, and I feel like anyone that does country music that comes to Nashville just falls in love with the place, and that happened to me big time.”
Evans also revealed the story behind “Kiss Somebody,” sharing that it was inspired by a friend he used to stay with in Nashville who went through a tough breakup.
“It was pretty rough, and he was devastated,” Evans shared. “I was there with him through the breakup and I went back to Australia. A year-and-a-half later I came back and he was still devastated over this girl and I was like, ‘Dude, you need to kiss somebody.’”
