During a recent in-store performance at Rough Trade in London, Margo Price unveiled an unreleased song titled “It Ain’t Drunk Driving If You’re Riding a Horse.”
Margo Price Makes History on Top Country Albums Chart
Though the track’s name might lead a listener to expect something tongue-in-cheek, Price delivers the tune in the mode of countless heart-wrenching country ballads. “My horse does all the thinking for me,” she sings somberly. “He’s sober as an angel on a Christmas tree.”
Steven Knudson wrote the song, and Price performs it in a bare-bones style — she handles acoustic guitar, while her accompaniment chips in on accordion and occasionally keyboard.
Price released Midwest Farmer’s Daughter earlier this year; the album set a chart record.
