On Thursday night’s (Aug. 13) episode of The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah and his correspondent Dulcé Sloan discussed sexism, especially as it pertains to coverage of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s vice presidential running mate.
However, the duo soon acknowledged that sexism goes beyond politics, noting the double standard of talking about raunchy topics in music. Narrowing in on the controversy surrounding Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new collaboration “WAP,” Noah questioned if men would be as upset if the song wasn’t hip-hop.
“We don’t live in a society that’s comfortable with women flaming their sexuality,” Sloan replied. “It doesn’t matter if it’s rap or country. I bet if it was a country music star that sang the same lyrics, all these men would still be upset.”
To further prove her point, Sloan called on country star Margo Price to put an acoustic, dulcet spin on the track (keeping the lyrics exactly as they are). Watch it below, beginning at the six-minute mark.
