The wait for Maren Morris‘ second album will soon be over. The country star announced Thursday (Feb. 7) that her next LP, Girl, will arrive March 8.
The album is Morris’ follow-up to her critically acclaimed and Grammy-nominated album Hero, which she released in June 2016. Morris released the album’s titular track as the lead single on Jan. 16, sharing an empowering video for the dynamic tune on Jan. 24.
Though Morris hasn’t revealed a track list for the album yet, she recently told Billboard that Girl focuses on accepting yourself, as well as your partner. “The first half of the album is very self-reflective, and it’s more about me,” she teased. “Then the second half of the record transitions into me being the counterpart to somebody else.”
Morris, who married fellow country singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd last year, made sure to incorporate her love story on Girl, especially because Hero didn’t feature any love songs. “I think that’s been a really beautiful side to being a touring musician: You never see the person, you miss them all the time, and he’s a musician as well, so we’re constantly writing with each other or about each other. A lot of these songs reflect that. [Ryan] actually wrote a couple of songs on this album with me. I feel like I’ve grown up more in the years since I released that album. And this is the timestamp of that,” she added.
Morris has also already plotted a massive world tour in support of Girl, which will hit 24 cities in North America before moving overseas to Europe through the end of May. The Girl World Tour will also stop by New Zealand and Australia in August.
